About Us

The New Zealand Shop was established in the 205 year old historic huge local & tourist destination, St Lawrence Market, in downtown Toronto, Canada, in March, 2004.

 
Owner, Kate Ryan, New Zealand born and holding dual New Zealand and Canadian Citizenships, returned to Toronto in 2002, after running her 20 year interior design consulting business in New Zealand and Papua Niugini, carrying out design and management projects for clients as L'Oreal of Paris, Glidepath Engineering, Air Niugini and Singapore Airlines.

With her eye on St Lawrence Market (from her favourite haunts in the 70's) Kate, armed with samples of New Zealand Paua (N.Z. Abalone shell) started off outside the Market (9 below zero) on a cold March morning, gradually building up her popular New Zealand jewellery and gift shop in the lower level of the Market (Downunder!).
